After pickup from your Rotorua hotel, fly by helicopter to Volcanic White Island. Flying over the Pacific Ocean often presents sightings of dolphins but nothing will prepare you for the tour once landed. Words cannot express the experience that is walking on the active crater floor of White Island. This unique lunar landscape is an integral part of our Pacific ring of fire. It is a steaming beauty which you'll never forget. White Island’s active volcanic vents, steaming Crater Lake, bubbling hot streams and desolate mining ruins combined create a surreal experience.
From the steaming crater floor of White Island to the high and exposed summit of Mount Tarawera, this is your unique opportunity to experience New Zealand’s two most prominent volcanic features.
Mount Tarawera is a dormant volcanic rift in the centre of a chain which extends from the volcanoes - Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro on the central plateau, through to White Island in the Bay of Plenty. The violent eruption of Tarawera, during the early hours of 1886 June 10th, was one of the most notable events of the 19th century. We will take you to the summit, where you can enjoy powerful views of the craters and domes formed during this huge eruption.
