Waiheke Island, is only 40 minutes ferry journey from the city of Auckland, but it has a warmer climate and clear air.
Board the ferry from the Downtown Auckland Ferry Terminal and enjoy the scenic cruise to Waiheke Island through the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. On arrival, your friendly local driver will greet you as you leave the ferry and direct you to your air conditioned tour coach.
This is the most cost effective way to have a good day out, with return ferry ticket, a 1.5 hour tour and free time to 'hop on / hop off' with the All Day Bus Pass.
Throughout your tour, your driver will talk to you about the island’s history and culture. You'll see Waiheke’s most stunning coastal vistas, as well some of the island's hottest properties; you'll pass beautiful hillside vineyards, look down on sweeping sandy beaches and get a real insider view of island life.
When the tour is over you can take advantage of the complimentary All Day Bus Pass allowing you to further explore the island with its many wineries, a brewery, olive growing estates, artists and beaches.
The name Waiheke means "cascading waters" in Maori, but today it is the soil which is highly acclaimed; being the perfect mix of clay and volcanic rock suited to growing grapes of a "wonderful consistency" and "particularly smooth tannins of Cabernet, Sauvignon & Merlot", according to Time magazine. People living on the island are from diverse nationalities and are colourful, creative and passionate about their community and well being.
