This is one of the world's most successful conservation projects - Tiritiri Matangi Island.
Get up close and personal with New Zealand's most endangered birds and rare wildlife in this open sanctuary.
Managed by the Department of Conservation in partnership with Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi, the 'open sanctuary' status allows the public to visit and enjoy this rare treat.
During the last 21 years almost half a million native trees have been planted allowing the re-introduction of 11 threatened native bird species.
Guided walks provide expert commentary and lend context to both animal life and the historical and archaeological features of the island.
If you're interested in eco-tourism, indigenous history and early New Zealand, you will find this tour of discovery of particular interest.
Walking tracks and look-out points offer spectacular views of the Hauraki Gulf. Wildlife discovery is suitable for all ages and abilities.
Tiritiri Matangi Island is a wildlife sanctuary and it is vital that it remains pest-free.
Before you depart on our vessel please check your bags for rodents and insects and ensure your footwear, clothing and bags are clean and free of seeds and/or seed material.
Please ensure your lunch is packed in a rodent-proof container such as hard plastic or metal. If you have any doubts about your packed items or have any additional questions please ask our sales staff or boat crew.
