With its unique character, relaxed, laid-back lifestyle and spectacular natural surrounds, historic Coromandel town, on the Coromandel Peninsula, offers attractions to suit all.
The discovery of gold at Driving Creek in 1852 brought a boom to the town and today it is a hub of activity where some of New Zealand’s finest artists live.
There is plenty to do with a beautiful surrounding landscape attractive to walkers and cyclists, the famous eclectic Driving Creek Railway – where the old pioneering spirit is alive and well! See the pottery of renowned potters. The working Gold Stamper Battery, the Waterworks with several acres of mechanical-Kiwi-ingenuity at its best are interesting attractions.
The friendly Coro-style cafes, bars & restaurants offer fresh local seafood and cater for all tastes. The beaches are suitable for family swimming and picnics. The coastline is ideal for fishing, cruising and kayaking, and a bay famous for its farming of green lip mussels and oysters.
The heritage township and surrounding landscape of Coromandel Peninsula offers an almost infinite bag of delights for the traveller. Our full-day tour begins with a 1 hour 50 minute cruise from downtown Auckland's Pier 4.
You're likely find that we're accompanied by a pod of playful dolphins...they love the Coromandel too!
At Coromandel Town you’will be met by our coach for the scenic journey into town, during which you will learn about the region’s unique history from one of the locals.
You will then spend a leisurely hour in Coromandel Town visiting the cafes or browsing through shops filled with New Zealand made products. Then you're off to Driving Creek Railway – a lifelong mission of potter Barry Brickell.
The last stop on the tour is a visit to New Zealand's only working water-driven Gold Stamper Battery where rock is crushed to extract gold and silver. You can even try your hand at panning for gold! Then it’s back to the ferry for the return journey to Auckland.
